Attorneys

L. Clay Selby, Jr.

Clay Selby is an experienced litigation attorney whose primary practice areas involve partnerships and closely-held corporations, construction, and employment matters. In his nearly 30 years of practice, Clay has represented clients in state and federal courts throughout Washington and has arbitrated business disputes ranging from local to international.

Prior to co-founding Selby Morgan & Born, Clay helped found Ledger Square Law and was a partner with Eisenhower & Carlson, PLLC.  Between 1996 and 2003, Clay served as a deputy prosecuting attorney for Pierce County, during which time he tried more than 50 criminal cases to verdict.

Clay received his bachelor’s degree in History from the University of Virginia and graduated cum laude from the Seattle University School of Law. He has served as a Trustee of the Tacoma-Pierce County Bar Association and Pro Tem judge in Pierce County District Court. In his free time, Clay and enjoys hiking, boating, and volunteering at his church in Gig Harbor.

Stuart C. Morgan

Stu Morgan is an experienced litigation attorney whose primary practice areas involve Trust and Estate disputes, Elder Law and Commercial Litigation.  In almost 30 years of practice, Stu has represented clients in state and federal courts throughout Washington in these practice areas and often assists parties with mediation and arbitration of their disputes. 

Prior to co-founding Selby Morgan & Born, Stu helped found Ledger Square Law, PS and was a partner with Eisenhower & Carlson, PLLC between 2004-2015.  In 1993, Stu served as the President of the Associated Students of Washington State University.  Stu graduated from Seattle University School of Law in 1996, cum laude, and served as a Judicial Law Clerk to the Hon. Gerry L. Alexander (Ret.) and the Hon. Charles W. Johnson.  In his spare time, Stu enjoys spending time with his family and coaching boys basketball at St. Patrick’s School in Tacoma. 

Brian M. Born

Brian Born is a seasoned commercial litigation attorney whose primary practice areas involve creditors’ rights, with an emphasis on banking and finance industries, including large commercial secured and unsecured lenders, equipment lessors, and other finance-related disputes.  He represents clients in state courts, federal courts and bankruptcy courts throughout the states of Washington and Oregon. 

Brian has many years of litigation experience resulting in numerous legal victories and millions of dollars in recoveries for his clients.  His focus is to provide client-responsive, aggressive, creative and goal-oriented representation with a bottom-line focus, providing services in all areas including litigation, defense, pre-judgment remedies, workouts, real property foreclosures, personal property foreclosures, post-judgment enforcement and creditor bankruptcy rights.

Brian received his undergraduate degree in English from Washington State University, where he was student-body President. He earned his law degree from Seattle University.  In his spare time, Brian is an assistant boys’ basketball coach at Gig Harbor High School.

Grady R. Heins

Grady Heins is a litigation attorney primarily practicing in business and construction law and trust and estate disputes. Previously, Grady was an associate attorney at Ledger Square Law, P.S. in Tacoma. Grady obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Washington and law degree from Gonzaga University, where he served as an editor on the Gonzaga Law Review, being admitted to the Washington State Bar in 2018.

Prior to practicing law, Grady lived in Denver, Colorado where he worked for various energy companies managing and negotiating complex title and leasing work across Montana, Wyoming, and Colorado. Grady’s private sector work provides him valuable insights when assisting clients in balancing litigation goals and outcomes.  Prior to starting private practice, Grady served as a legal extern for the Honorable Jack Nevin, Pierce County Superior Court, and with the Pierce County Executive’s office.
